Bombay HC Permits Adani Electricity to Cut 209 Mangroves

In a significant ruling, the Bombay High Court has allowed Adani Electricity Mumbai Infra Ltd. (AEMIL) to cut 209 mangroves near Vasai Creek to facilitate the construction of a High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission line. The court observed that the project is crucial for enhancing Mumbai’s electricity supply, ensuring sustainable energy transmission to meet the city's growing demands.

The HVDC project, spanning 80 km, includes 30 km of overhead transmission lines and 50 km of underground cabling across Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar districts. According to Adani Electricity’s petition, only 1 km of the HVDC corridor will pass through mangrove areas, with 2.2 km falling within the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) of Vasai Creek.
