Guwahati Airport Terminal Upgrade Progresses Ahead of October Deadline
Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, operated by the Adani Group, is set to shift operations to its new terminal by October 2025. Construction and infrastructure work are advancing rapidly to meet this deadline.
Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, during a high-level review, directed departments including Public Works (Roads), Water Resources, and Guwahati International Airport Limited (GIAL) to prioritise coordination and adhere strictly to the October timeline.
Key tasks include acceleration of work on roadways, service lanes, street lighting, drainage, and utility logistics. Beautification efforts like landscaping, signage, and labelling are also planned alongside.
A Memorandum of Understanding is to be signed between Assam PWD and Adani Airport Holdings Limited to facilitate final project phases.
Earlier, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the new terminal will increase the airport’s annual passenger capacity to 13 million, nearly four times the current capacity. The terminal’s third part is expected to be inaugurated around September or October 2025.
The new terminal project was initially managed by the Airports Authority of India before management transferred to the Adani Group in October 2021.
