Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced that the existing two-lane Salepur–Narsanda–Telmar–Karauta road will be widened into a four-lane highway, offering a faster and smoother route from Patna to Rajgir.
The project includes the development of the proposed Salepur–Rajgir Buddha Circuit into a four-lane corridor, aimed at improving connectivity and reducing travel time for commuters and tourists heading to the historical town of Rajgir.
Speaking during a site inspection in Biharsharif district on 17 May, the Chief Minister said the upgraded road would serve as a key link between Karauta on National Highway-31 (NH-31) and Rajgir, significantly easing vehicular flow.
Officials also briefed him on the plan to construct an elevated road over the railway line along the alignment to ensure seamless movement.
The Salepur–Narsanda–Telmar–Karauta Road originates from State Highway-78 (Bihta–Sarmera) and joins NH-31 at Jagdamba Sthan Mor on the Patna–Mokama route. The CM reviewed this stretch and visited critical junctions at Chauhan intersection, Beldaripar, and Noorsarai to assess land availability for the proposed expansion.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was accompanied by Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Principal Secretary Deepak Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary of Road Construction Mihir Kumar Singh, and senior officials including Anupam Kumar, Kumar Ravi, and the district magistrates of Patna and Nalanda.
