Cloverleaf Flyover Planned on Trichy-Madurai NH at Panjapur

The Tamil Nadu government, in partnership with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), is set to build a cloverleaf flyover on the Trichy–Madurai National Highway at Panjapur to address anticipated traffic congestion from upcoming developments in the area. These include a new Tidel Park and a wholesale market, Municipal Administration Minister K. N. Nehru announced recently.

The flyover will span 3.5 kilometres and feature six lanes. Minister Nehru confirmed that land acquisition has been completed by the district administration and handed over to NHAI. The structure will follow the design of the Kathipara flyover in Chennai. Concurrently, work is underway on a four-lane semi-ring road connecting the Trichy–Madurai and Trichy–Karur highways.

NHAI officials have confirmed the preparation of a detailed project report (DPR), with the cloverleaf design among the options under consideration.

Minister Nehru, who was in Trichy to inaugurate completed infrastructure and lay foundation stones for projects worth Rs 700 million under the Trichy Corporation limits, also addressed other key developments.

Regarding the long-pending road overbridges (RoBs) at Maris Road near Fort Station and Trichy Railway Junction (Stage II), he said the state government’s work is complete, and the onus is now on Southern Railway to finish their part.

He also stated that a metro rail proposal for Trichy is under review, with a survey set to begin soon.

In a move to expand the city limits, the Trichy Corporation plans to merge nearby village panchayats. Ward delimitation will be carried out as part of this proposal, and public objections have been invited.

Separately, Minister Nehru laid the foundation stone for Phase II of the IBT Link Road project, estimated at Rs 680 million. This 2.1-kilometre stretch includes a 1.1-kilometre elevated section connecting Woraiyur to Kudamurutti, with a 10-metre-wide carriageway expected to be completed within 18 months.
