PM to Inaugurate 5 Redeveloped Stations in Vadodara Division

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate five newly redeveloped railway stations in Gujarat’s Vadodara division on 22 May. The stations—Dakor, Karamsad, Derol, Kosamba, and Utran—have been modernised under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), aimed at transforming over 1,300 stations into world-class transit hubs.

The ABSS initiative, launched two years ago, focuses on improving passenger amenities, accessibility, and aesthetics by incorporating sustainable infrastructure and local cultural elements.

Each of the five stations reflects regional character while enhancing functionality. Dakor Station, a key halt for pilgrims visiting Shree Ranchhodrai Temple, now features eco-friendly structures suited for religious tourism. Karamsad Station pays tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel through an art wall and commemorative space.

Derol Station adopts temple-inspired architecture, aligning with the spiritual environment of nearby Pavagadh. Utran Station, situated near Surat’s growing metro area, has been reimagined to serve daily commuters with a modern, user-friendly design.

The Vadodara division, part of the Western Railway zone, is a major node on the busy New Delhi–Mumbai corridor. Handling over 150 trains daily, Vadodara station connects key cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Howrah, and serves as the division’s headquarters.

Spanning more than 4,400 kilometres of route length, the division covers multiple districts including Anand, Bharuch, Narmada, and parts of Surat. It operates key stations such as Bharuch, Anand, Godhra, and Chhayapuri, supporting both urban transit and rural access.

Vadodara’s rail network is critical for transporting industrial goods—especially chemicals, fertilisers, petroleum, and textiles—from hubs like Bharuch and Ankleshwar. Continued upgrades under ABSS and other modernisation schemes aim to boost capacity, commuter experience, and operational efficiency across the division.
