Ladakh Gets Rs 9.47 Billion Strategic Infra Boost From BRO

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has virtually inaugurated fifty key infrastructure projects by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), including sixteen projects in Ladakh worth Rs 9.47 billion. These initiatives, completed under BRO鈥檚 flagship Project Himank and Project Vijayak, aim to enhance connectivity in remote and strategically vital areas of the Union Territory.

The launch coincided with the sixty-sixth Raising Day of the BRO and the formal commencement of Operation Sindoor. Key projects in Ladakh include six critical bridges鈥擪anglajal Bridge-I & II, Fukche Talza, Fukche Lungpa, Hanu Yokma, and Domkhar鈥攁nd eight roads improving access across border villages.

High-altitude routes such as the Tangtse鈥揕ukung, Karu鈥揟angtse, and Chusul鈥揇emchok roads were developed under Project Himank. Additionally, the BRO introduced ILCB road surfacing technology at Chang La and Wari La and inaugurated a specialised ammunition cavern in Hanle.

A highlight of the event was the launch of Caf茅 Himank on the Tangtse鈥揕ukung Road, offering rest stops for both civilians and defence personnel.

Praising the BRO, Defence Minister Singh stated the projects support national security and the local economy. LAHDC Leh Chief Tashi Gyalson and Director General of Border Roads Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan also acknowledged the strategic value of the works.

The projects in Ladakh form part of a larger Rs 18.79 billion push covering eight States and Union Territories, including six projects in Jammu & Kashmir under Project Sampark.
