Reay Road Bridge Inaugurated to Ease South Mumbai Traffic

15 May 2025
South Mumbai will unveil the Reay Road Bridge on 13 May 2025, marking a major milestone in the city鈥檚 infrastructure development. This is Mumbai鈥檚 first land-based cable-stayed road overbridge and spans three hundred and eighty-five metres, connecting Byculla and Mazgaon.

The six-lane structure includes pedestrian pathways and aims to ease congestion while improving connectivity. The project began on 14 February 2022 after demolition of the earlier British-era bridge. Though construction was completed in December 2024, the formal inauguration is scheduled six months later.

Built at an estimated cost of Rs 2.73 Bn, the bridge was developed by the Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation in partnership with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and Indian Railways.

The bridge features a central pylon cable-stayed system that reduces the number of piers required, helping preserve underground utilities and enabling better traffic flow below. It includes LED lighting and a bridge health monitoring system for ongoing safety.

Linking Mahul Road near the Eastern Freeway with Barrister Nath Pai Marg, the route offers direct connectivity and reduced travel times. A second bridge in Titwala will also be inaugurated remotely during the ceremony.
