Poltrona Frau Celebrates Dezza’s 60th Anniversary with Limited Edition

To mark the 60th anniversary of one of its most iconic designs, Poltrona Frau has launched a limited edition of the Dezza armchair, originally designed by the legendary Italian architect and designer Gio Ponti in 1965. This release not only commemorates a milestone in design history but also reflects the enduring partnership between Poltrona Frau’s tradition of craftsmanship and Ponti’s visionary approach to modern living.

About Poltrona Frau Founded in 1912, Poltrona Frau is a symbol of Italian excellence in high-end furniture and design. Renowned for its meticulous craftsmanship, the brand is especially recognized for its use of Pelle Frau® leather, setting benchmarks in quality and style. Its Residential Living Business Unit produces luxury furniture for indoor, outdoor, office, and lifestyle applications.

Poltrona Frau’s product legacy includes iconic creations like Chester and Vanity Fair by Renzo Frau, and Dezza by Gio Ponti. More recently, the brand has collaborated with prominent designers such as Faye Toogood, Jean-Marie Massaud, GamFratesi, and Neri&Hu, reinforcing its balance between tradition and innovation.

Gio Ponti: The Master of Modern Italian Design Gio Ponti (18911979) was a prolific architect, designer, and artistic director whose contributions reshaped Italian creative production in the 20th century. A founder of the Domus magazine and promoter of the Compasso d’Oro, Ponti’s creative reach extended from ceramics and furniture to architecture, including the renowned Pirelli skyscraper in Milan.

His design philosophy embraced both Art Deco elegance and Rationalist functionality, with a flair for blending artistic imagination and industrial production. Ponti’s work reflects a deep respect for craftsmanship and a futuristic vision that still influences contemporary design today.

The Dezza Armchair: Then and Now Designed by Ponti in 1965, the Dezza armchair was the first product to signify Poltrona Frau’s new era after relocating its headquarters to Tolentino in 1962. The Dezza stood out with its clean, squared lines balanced by graceful curved armrests, reflecting both modernist and organic aesthetics.

In 2025, Poltrona Frau reintroduces the Dezza in a limited edition of 60 numbered pieces, celebrating its 60th anniversary. Upholstered in Pelle Frau® ColorSphere Impact Less leather—a sustainable innovation introduced by the brand in 2022—the edition is available in two elegant colorways: Panna and Iris, inspired by Ponti’s interiors at the Hotel Parco dei Principi in Sorrento.

The standout feature of the re-edition is its upholstery pattern, derived from a previously unpublished Gio Ponti illustration featuring 26 stylized hands, each with its own symbolic identity. This tribute emphasizes Ponti’s fascination with artisanal expression and aligns with Poltrona Frau’s philosophy of celebrating the “intelligence of the hands.

Availability & Exclusivity The Dezza Limited Edition armchair is available for purchase: Online: Exclusively on Poltrona Frau e-shops in select European markets from February 13 to April 1, 2025

In-Store: Available at select Poltrona Frau showrooms worldwide following the online exclusivity period. Each unit comes with a metal tag and a signed certificate of authenticity, ensuring its collectible value for design connoisseurs.

Nicola Coropulis, CEO of Poltrona Frau, said: “We are thrilled to present this historic piece from our catalogue in a new guise. With our re-editions we always try to create and deepen the cultural significance of the original design, offering something truly exclusive that not only enhances the materials and finishes but, above all, celebrates the creative process behind the products.

The Dezza Limited Edition is more than a commemorative design—it is a tribute to two enduring legacies: the visionary genius of Gio Ponti and the craftsmanship excellence of Poltrona Frau. This release underscores the timeless nature of thoughtful design, bridging heritage and modernity with grace.
