The Czech Republic has received liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments equivalent to just over 25% of its annual consumption in the first year of operation of the Eemshaven terminal in the Netherlands. Notably, these shipments did not originate from Russia, according to statements made by utility company CEZ on Monday.Through its majority state-owned entity, CEZ, the Czech Republic secured capacity at the Eemshaven terminal in the previous year. This move was part of the country's strategy to diversify its sources of natural gas, particularly in the aftermath of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.In addition to the Czech Republic, energy giants Shell and Engie from France also reserved capacity at the Eemshaven terminal.CEZ provided further details, indicating that approximately 2 billion cubic meters of gas, equivalent to approximately 27% of the nation's consumption in 2022, were delivered by 21 ships over the past year. Most of these shipments originated from U.S. ports in Texas and Louisiana. Furthermore, deliveries from South America and Africa have also reached the Czech Republic.The utility company expects an additional nine ships to arrive by the end of the current year, further solidifying the country's efforts to diversify its sources of natural gas.
