ONGC's KG basin crude reaches Mangalore refinery

The initial shipment of the recently explored crude oil from ONGC's KG basin deep-sea block had been received at Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals (MRPL) on March 9. The ship responsible for transporting the new crude oil from Krishna Godavari basin block KG-DWN-98/2 to Mangalore was named Swarna Sindhu, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had flagged it off on March 2.

According to the statement, the refinery expressed that the indigenous crude, characterized by its low sulphur content, is expected to undergo a transformation into various fuels and petrochemicals at MRPL, Mangalore. This transformation is set to make a significant contribution to the Athmanirbhar Bharath mission of the Government of India.

The KG block KG-DWN-98/2, operated by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), commenced oil production in January and is situated in Andhra offshore. Currently, the field is producing approximately 12,000-12,500 barrels of oil per day utilizing a floating production and storage offloading (FPSO) system. The oil is stored on the FPSO, and when it reaches a critical level, it is transferred to a ship, which then transports it to a refinery for processing into fuels such as petrol and diesel.

It was also highlighted that MRPL operates as a subsidiary of ONGC.
