PM Lays Foundation for Compressed Biogas Plant in Haryana

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone for a compressed biogas (CBG) plant in Yamunanagar, Haryana, with an estimated cost of 90 million rupees. The facility is expected to be operational by May 2027, generating over 2,600 tonnes of CBG annually using waste biomass and cattle dung.

The plant will process 45,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste and 36,000 tonnes of cow dung each year. In doing so, it will replace 2,600 tonnes of conventional CNG and is projected to cut carbon emissions by 7,800 tonnes annually.

Besides environmental gains, the project is expected to save the local municipal corporation three Mn rupees in tipping fees and reduce nine and a half Mn rupees worth of energy imports every year.

The plant will also produce bio-manure, contributing to effective waste management and supporting the government's Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Around 50 individuals will be employed during operations, generating 15,000 man-days of work opportunities.
