Tata Steel Switches to PNG at Odisha Ferro Alloys Plant

Tata Steel has replaced furnace oil with Piped Natural Gas (PNG) at its Ferro Alloys Plant (FAP) in Jajpur, Odisha, as part of its sustainability efforts. The transition, announced, aligns with the company鈥檚 commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions.

The shift follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) for the long-term supply of PNG. Under the agreement, BPCL will provide the required natural gas through its pipeline network, ensuring a stable and efficient fuel supply for the plant鈥檚 operations.

The plant, part of Tata Steel鈥檚 Ferro Alloys and Minerals Division (FAMD), has installed a dedicated PNG facility to support cleaner production processes. PNG will now be used for preheating chrome ore, a critical step in producing chrome ore briquettes. This shift to a cleaner fuel source reinforces Tata Steel鈥檚 commitment to a greener industrial future.
