Thirteen states in India approve dedicated electric vehicle policies

The Parliament was informed on Monday that thirteen states, including Delhi, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, backed the dedicated policies to promote the electric vehicle (EVs) adoption.
Krishan Pal Gurjar, Minister of State for Heavy Industries, in a written response to Rajya Sabha, said that according to information gathered from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), the battery is an essential part of the electric vehicles, and it is calculated that the battery cost is around 30-40% of the vehicle cost.
Gurjar told the media that the 13 states, which are Delhi, Kerala, Maharashtra, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Meghalaya and West Bengal, have approved the dedicated EV policies to promote the adoption of electric vehicles.
He also said that the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) 2020 is a national mission document providing the vision and the road map for rapid adoption of electric vehicles and their manufacturing in the country, in a separate response.
Additionally, he said that this plan was prepared to improve national fuel security, provide environment-friendly and affordable transportation, and facilitate the Indian automotive industry to achieve global manufacturing leadership.
