Centre clears two Kaiga power units

The Centre has given in-principle clearance for establishing the fifth and sixth units, each with an installed capacity of 700 MW,  at the Kaiga power plant. Construction of the units is expected to be completed by the end of the coming five-year plan period.

However, this also depends on the reactions of local residents. NPCIL had already acquired 120 hectare of forest land for the construction of six units, of which, 85 hectare had already been utilised for the construction of the first four units. It has also adopted a special technology that will enhance the safety of these nuclear power projects.
