Andhra University (AU) will soon launch a solar thermal power project in its campus, on a build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) basis. New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) officials discussed about setting up a solar thermal power project in three areas to fulfil the varsity's electricity needs and maintain the hostel messes and auditoriums by using Australian technology.NREDCAP Chairman K K Raju told the media that the aim is to make use of non-conventional sources of energy and reduce pollution. The varsity will build a 1 MW solar thermal power plant on a build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) basis. The Chairman of Sunrise CSP India, Deepak Gadia, had explained the set-up of the solar thermal power plant, power generation, uses and consumption. The power generation project could be launched at three different locations, including Women Engineering College, AU Engineering College hostel complexes and the AU Convention Centre on Beach Road, he said. AU Registrar V Krishnamohan and Prasad Reddy told the media that the varsity would be relieved from the huge electricity bills by shifting to renewable energy sources.
