APTEL Directs Punjab Utility to Refund Rs 780 Mn to TSPL

The Appellate Tribunal for Electricity (APTEL) has directed Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) to refund Rs 780 million to Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL) for deductions made on its monthly invoices in January and February 2017, citing alleged mis-declaration of plant availability. PSPCL must also pay the applicable interest, which TSPL estimates at approximately Rs 1.8 billion.

TSPL, a subsidiary of Vedanta Limited, operates North India's largest private thermal power plant and represents the largest private sector investment in Punjab. With an installed capacity of 1,980 MW (3x660 MW), the plant supplies nearly 30% of Punjab鈥檚 electricity demand and has been providing power to PSPCL since commissioning its first unit in 2014.
