Azure Power and Tata Power are declared winners within the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited’s (MSEDCL) auction to acquire power from 500 MW from grid-connected intrastate and interstate wind-solar hybrid projects on a long-term basis.
Azure Power has secured a capacity of 200 MW, and Tata Power bagged a capacity of 300 MW, both quoting Rs 2.62 per kWh.
The tender was oversubscribed by 1 GW and received a good response from the bidders.
MSEDCL told the media that being a hybrid tender, MSEDCL had the clause of certified wind turbine procurement from the revised list of manufacturers and models and procurement of solar modules from the approved list of manufacturers and models. Therefore, only a couple of big players were eligible to bid for this capacity in compliance with both the clauses.
MSEDCL invited bids in May this year to acquire 500 MW of wind-solar hybrid power on a long-term basis from grid-connected interstate and intrastate projects.
MSEDCL is going to enter into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the shortlisted bidders to purchase wind-solar hybrid power for 25 years from the commercial operation date of the projects.
25 MW should be the minimum project size of a single intrastate hybrid power project, with at least 10 MW project at one site. It should be 50 MW for interstate projects at one location to be interconnected to one delivery point.
The tariff of Rs 2.62 per kWh is 8% higher than the lowest tariff of Rs 2.42 per kWh discovered in the recently concluded MSEDCL’s 500 MW solar auction.
The tariff has been discovered within the Solar Energy Corporation of India’s (SECI) auction for setting up 1.2 GW of interstate transmission-connected wind-solar hybrid power projects under Tranche III of the Interstate Transmission System (ISTS) program.
Adani Renewable Energy Holding Eight was awarded 600 MW, Energy was awarded 130 MW, and ABC Renewable Energy was awarded 380 MW of projects for Rs 2.41 per kWh. ACME Solar quoted Rs 2.42 per kWh for 300 MW of projects but was only awarded 90 MW under the bucket-filling method.
