Haryana Pushes Solar Revolution in Government Buildings

Under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, the Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency (HREDA) will install rooftop solar power plants in all government buildings across Gurugram, aiming to bolster clean energy adoption.

Deputy Commissioner Gurugram, Ajay Kumar, urged departmental officers to register their buildings on the PM Surya Ghar portal, emphasizing the scheme鈥檚 mission to reduce reliance on conventional electricity and make solar energy accessible to citizens. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February, the scheme offers citizens subsidies and 300 units of free electricity while targeting one crore rooftop installations nationwide this year, backed by a budget of Rs.750 billion.

In Haryana, a survey has identified 1,070 government buildings for solar plant installation, with an estimated capacity of 50 MW. Additionally, one village per district will be developed as a solar village. Grants of ?30,000 for a 2 kW plant and ?78,000 for systems of 3 kW or more are available for citizens, with Antyodaya families eligible for an extra ?50,000.

"Officers must complete building registrations on the portal by next week," added Additional Deputy Commissioner Hitesh Kumar, reflecting the administration鈥檚 commitment to accelerating solar adoption.
