Hero Electric, Sun Mobility partners for battery swapping technology

Also read: EV inHero Electric had announced its partnership with Sun Mobility to sell electric two-wheelers integrated with the swappable battery technology.

According to a statement, both the companies will sell jointly developed vehicles in the next three months with a target of around 10,000 electric two-wheelers by the end of this year.

They will create an ecosystem where customers can access the batteries having the latest technologies throughout the product lifecycle without the need of ever purchasing a battery. The companies will also partner on financing options for electric vehicle (EV) buyers.

CEO of Hero Electric, Sohinder Gill, said that battery swapping is emerging as a strong catalyst for the exponential growth of the electric two-wheelers in India. It reduces the upfront cost of buying an electric two-wheeler and eliminates anxiety and apprehensions about the life of the batteries.

This technology is especially for the business to business (B2B) customers, as the swapping stations can be placed in the working zones for the EV riders to run their bikes without waiting for the recharging of the batteries.

Minister of Finance, Nirmala Sitharaman, announced the formulation of a Battery Swapping Policy that will mainstream the technology for the adoption of EV in India.

Sun Mobility has 70 battery swapping stations in over 15 cities, used primarily by electric three-wheeler operators. The company has also partnered with Piaggio and Ashok Leyland.
