India issues 11,098 mw in renewable energy tenders

India's renewable energy sector saw significant progress in October 2024, per JMK Research. Key highlights include tenders totalling 11,098 mw by National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC), National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). October saw $103 mn in investments and 6,316 mw allocated to developers. The Indian Energy Exchange traded 33.55 mn Green Term Ahead Market (GTAM) units. Solar and wind additions in September totalled 1,501 mw with policy updates at central and state levels.

PM Surya Ghar sees rooftop solar capacity increase by 50%
Muft Bijli Yojana under PM Surya Ghar has boosted rooftop solar capacity by over 50 per cent within six months of its launch. Approved in February with `750.21 billion, the scheme enables households to generate their own electricity. Minister Pralhad Joshi announced 400,000 rooftop solar connections, adding 1.8 gw, raising residential solar capacity to 3.2 gw by March. Overall rooftop capacity reached 11.9 gw, with 60 per cent serving commercial users. Subsidies on solar modules were increased to 60 per cent, with loans at 7 per cent interest. The scheme aims to achieve 30 gw residential solar capacity by 2027.

India’s renewable energy sector is making significant strides, with the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy approving 50 solar parks totalling 37.5 gw, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi announced at the International Solar Alliance (ISA) General Assembly. India aims to achieve 30 gw in offshore wind projects and 500 gw of renewable energy by 2030, with solar already exceeding 90 gw in installed capacity. The ISA, a coalition of 120 nations, seeks $1,000 billion in solar investments by 2030. Joshi highlighted initiatives like the PM-KUSUM scheme and rooftop solar projects, showcasing progress and promoting sustainability.

India’s renewable energy capacity rose by 24.2 gw (13.5 per cent) to 203.18 gw in October 2024, up from 178.98 gw in October 2023, according to the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). Solar energy drove this growth, increasing by 20.1 gw (27.9 per cent) to 92.12 gw. Total solar capacity, including projects under implementation and tendered, reached 250.57 gw, up from 166.49 gw. Wind energy also grew, rising by 7.8 per cent to 47.72 gw, with a total pipeline of 72.35 gw. By October, projects under implementation reached 143.94 gw, and 89.69 gw were tendered. Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi highlighted India'scommitment to clean energy development.

L&T wins order worth Rs.150 bn for thermal plants

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured an order from National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), valued at over `150 billion, to set up thermal power plants in Madhya Pradesh and Bihar. The order, awarded to L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions, includes design, engineering, manufacturing, and commissioning of critical infrastructure such as boilers, turbines, and electrostatic precipitators. L&T’s experience in executing large-scale projects will be key to meeting the strict timelines, which will involve extensive mechanical, electrical, and civil works.
