NLC India Limited, a prestigious Navratna Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSE) under the Ministry of Coal, has secured the rights to develop a substantial 810 MW Solar PV project in Rajasthan. This achievement stems from NLCIL's success in winning the entire capacity of the 810 MW tender initiated by Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Nigam Limited (RRVUNL) in December 2022. The project will be situated within RRVUNL鈥檚 2000 MW Ultra Mega Solar Park in Pugal Tehsil, Bikaner District, Rajasthan, and the Letter of Intent for the project has been officially issued by RRVUNL. This milestone reflects NLCIL's unwavering dedication to fostering clean and sustainable energy solutions.
The land for the project and the power evacuation system, connected to the State Transmission Utility (STU), will be provided by RVUNL, expediting the project's completion timeline. Notably, this endeavour stands as the company's most extensive renewable project to date, bolstering Rajasthan's power project capacity to 1.36 GW, inclusive of 1.1 GW of green power. This significant expansion brings forth economies of scale and optimised fixed costs, fortifying the region's renewable energy sector.
Leveraging Rajasthan's abundant solar radiation, the project aims for a higher Capacity Utilisation Factor (CUF), potentially generating over 50 billion units of green power. Over the project's lifespan, this initiative is expected to offset more than 50,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, contributing substantially to environmental sustainability.
Currently, NLC India Limited is engaged in several other noteworthy solar projects, including a 50 MW Solar project on mined-out land, a 200 MW Solar project under the Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) scheme across India, a 300 MW Solar project under CPSU Scheme in Barsingsar, Bikaner District, and a 600 MW Solar project in Khavda Solar project, Bhuj District, Gujarat.
Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD of NLC India Limited, emphasised the company's pioneering status as the first CPSU to install 1 GW of Renewable Energy (RE) capacity. Currently, the company is actively developing 2 GW of RE capacity nationwide, including this project. Their ambitious target is to expand this capacity to over 6 GW by 2030, aligning with the Indian Government's commitment to bolster RE capacity in the country.
