North India鈥檚 largest floating solar power project in Chandigarh

The largest floating solar power project in northern India, with a capacity of 2000 kWp and a cost of Rs 117 million was unveiled by UT Administrator Banwari Lal Purohit at Sector 39's waterworks. Kirron Kher, a member of parliament, attended the inauguration. Dhanas Lake's 500 kWp floating solar project with fountains was also inaugurated by him. The event was attended by Mayor Anoop Gupta, Director (Environment) Debendra Dalai, Adviser Dharam Pal, and others.

The floating solar power plant includes 10 years of operations and maintenance (O&M). At Dhanas Lake, the 500 kWp floating solar power plant with fountains cost Rs 33.40 million, including 10 years of O&M for the plant and the fountains. CREST (Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science & Technology Promotion Society) designed and implemented these projects, which will produce at least 35 lakh kWh of solar energy annually with a module efficiency of 20 per cent.

The Administrator expressed gratitude to CREST and the Forest & Wildlife Department for developing and beautifying Dhanas Lake, which now attracts more tourists than Sukhna Lake because of its beautiful fountains. Additionally, he urged citizens to join the administration in promoting solar power, which is not only environmentally friendly but also financially viable, and to install rooftop solar power plants on their homes, offices, and factories to harness solar energy. God has been kind to India by providing us with so much solar radiation. Therefore, we ought to make sincere efforts to utilise every square inch of the available space to obtain this ultimate energy source.
