Rooftop solar subsidy issue resolved for 346 Goa homes

The subsidy issue under Phase 2 of the rooftop solar scheme has been resolved, bringing relief to 346 beneficiaries in Goa, said Union Minister Shripad Naik. Delayed central financial assistance—caused by process discrepancies—has now been cleared after coordination between state and central authorities.

Under the revamped PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, Goa aims to solarise at least 50 per cent of households within a year. Starting in May, awareness drives will be held across all village panchayats to boost registration.

Naik said over Rs 10 million in subsidy has already been disbursed, with the second instalment to follow soon. A 3kW rooftop system costs Rs 200,000, with the Centre offering Rs 78,000 and the state covering 30 per cent of the cost.

He encouraged Goans to register online, assuring them that the scheme has now been streamlined. Once operational, prosumers—who both produce and consume electricity—will see their bills reduced to zero, with surplus power sold back to the grid.

The initiative also supports India’s zero-emissions target and helps reduce dependence on coal-based power.
