Sikkim eyes South Korean investment in green hydrogen

A Sikkim Delegation, led by Secretary of Commerce & Industries, Karma R Bonpo, had visited South Korea with the intention of exploring the potential for Green Hydrogen Investments from South Korea.
During the visit, a meeting had taken place between the delegation and various individuals, including the Managing Director of India-Pacific Urban Infrastructure Development Partnership Center at the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlement (KRIHS), Jo Jin Cheol, as well as Vice President of Yooshin Engineering Corporation, Kang Tae WooPark, JNK Heaters Co, representative, Jong Han, and Chief Operating Officer from Vinatech Co, Gyeng Chul Kim. The discussions centered around the topic of developing renewable cities with a focus on Green Hydrogen.
Furthermore, the delegation had also paid a visit to a Hydrogen Station located in Seoul. This particular station was involved in the production of Hydrogen using methane sourced from a landfill site within Korea. The station possessed the capability to manufacture 600 kg of hydrogen daily and was under the operation of JNK Heater Co.
The Government of Sikkim expressed a strong interest in establishing Sikkim as a prominent hydrogen hub within the nation. Their plans included harnessing the state's hydro energy to generate green hydrogen, which could subsequently serve various purposes such as transportation, construction, housing, and industrial requirements.
The concept of green hydrogen was aligned with the vision of the State Government, which was being championed Prem Singh Tamang, Chief Minister,. This vision aimed at positioning Sikkim as a sought-after green investment destination across India.
Sikkim was set to become one of the initial states in India to undertake the pilot of green hydrogen ecosystem development within the country.
The Green Hydrogen sector held the promise of potentially generating around 25000 employment opportunities for the state's youth, and additionally, it could act as a catalyst for entrepreneurship and investments within Sikkim.
