Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL)?s Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) will install solar power generation systems on its site buildings of 2 MW of electricity. The plant has signed an agreement with the Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA) for the solar power generation project. Further, another initiative of rooftop solar energy of about 3 MW of electricity systems installation on residences and offices in the township is also underway. After both projects are finished, annual carbon dioxide emissions might be reduced by as much as 2,900 tonnes, contributing to environmental preservation. A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the installation of a floating solar plant with a 15 MW capacity in the Maroda-1 reservoir was also signed on May 9 by the BSP and NTPC-SAIL Power Supply Company Limited (NSPCL).By the following year, the floating solar plant, which will be the first of its kind in the state, will be completed. This project is expected to generate 34.26 million units of green electricity annually, all of which will be used as captive power by BSP. In the following phase, BSP also proposes to build a 35 MW floating solar power plant in the Maroda-2 reservoir through NSPCL. A detailed project report (DPR) has already been created for this project, and the bidding procedure is probably going to begin shortly. The two phases of the solar energy projects?the first expected to be finished by 2025, the second by the end of 2027, will encompass the plant premises, township, Maroda-1 and Maroda-2 reservoirs.
