Wind energy capacity up by 76% with 239 MW installation in Q2

Wind installations in India declined by 62% quarter-over-quarter (QoQ) in the second quarter (Q2) of 2021, along with 239 MW installations in Q2 2021, compared to 623 MW in the first quarter (Q1) of 2021.
The wind capacity installations increased by 76% year-on-year (YoY), compared to 136 MW in Q2 2020.
The cumulative installations of wind capacity at the end of Q2 2021 stood at 39.6 GW.
In Q2 2021, major installations came from Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra.
In June 2021, Gujarat added about 220 MW of wind capacity with a 22% market share and ranked second in the cumulative installations in India with a total of 8.78 GW installations.
Similarly, Tamil Nadu added 109 MW of wind capacity and ranked first in cumulative installations in India with 9.72 GW installations, having a 25% total market share.
Maharashtra added 12.5 MW of wind capacity with a total market share of 13%. It was ranked third in cumulative installations in the country with 5.01 GW installations.
No wind capacity installations were made in Karnataka in Q2 2021 but had a 13% market share due to cumulative installations of 4.3 GW in July 2021. Rajasthan was ranked in the top five with cumulative installations of 4.3 GW in July 2021, with a market share of 11%.

In June, the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and MEC Intelligence (MEC+) released the report of the Indian Wind Energy Market Outlook 2025, according to which the fourth-largest wind energy market would add about 20.2 GW of fresh wind capacity between 2021 to 2025. As per the report, the market would return to normal with about 20.2 GW installations between 2021 to 2025, especially wind-solar hybrid projects.
