India continues to cement its position as a global digital powerhouse 鈥 and Google鈥檚 latest milestone reinforces this trajectory with the inauguration of Ananta, one of its largest offices worldwide. CW explores the design, sustainability and construction aspects of this landmark campus in Bengaluru.Significance of AnantaLocated in Mahadevapura, Bengaluru, Ananta spans 1.6 million sq ft and is situated within Bagmane Tech Park. Named after the Sanskrit word for 鈥榠nfinite鈥, this state-of-the-art, 11-storey facility is Google鈥檚 fourth office in Bengaluru. It is designed to foster collaboration across departments, including Google Search, Maps, AI, Android, Google Pay, Cloud, and more.Ananta is more than just a new office space. It reflects Google鈥檚 two-decade-long journey in India, where the company has played a pivotal role in shaping digital infrastructure and empowering millions through initiatives like AI-powered flood forecasting, early TB detection, and expanding the digital economy via Google Pay. With Ananta, Google deepens its commitment to building from India, for the world 鈥 recognising the country not just as a key market but a critical engine of innovation, talent and growth.A workplace for interaction and idea-sharingA collaboration between Google India, Bagmane and Broadway Malyan, Ananta embodies Google鈥檚 latest thinking in workplace design. It is designed to connect people in ways that spark breakthrough ideas and innovation. The building鈥檚 sculpted form is more than striking architecture 鈥 it improves views, provides access to natural light, and creates an intimate layout for teams to come together.鈥淭he design of Ananta directly addresses these considerations through several key features,鈥 shares Anand Rangarajan, Vice President, Google DeepMind. The 鈥榥eighbourhood鈥 workspaces promote team collaboration and create a sense of community, while 鈥楽abha鈥, our central gathering space, is designed to bring people together for larger events and informal meetings.鈥澛燛ach working floor is organised like a city grid, with a network of streets for easy navigation. The building also maximises natural light and incorporates extensive greenery, contributing to a more positive and productive work environment.Purposeful design meets people-centric philosophy鈥淥ur primary focus was on creating a workplace that fosters collaboration and innovation while prioritising employee well-being,鈥 says Rangarajan. The campus blends interactive spaces that enable spontaneous idea-sharing with quieter zones for deep focus, balancing teamwork and productivity. It also reflects Google鈥檚 culture and values through its thoughtful layout, spatial planning and inclusive approach.Gautam Shetty, Design Head, Bagmane, adds that Ananta goes beyond standard commercial spaces. 鈥淚t integrates smart building technologies with an emphasis on sustainability and occupant well-being,鈥 he explains. The curved glass fa莽ade features over 200,000 sq ft of SageGlass Harmony庐 鈥 a dynamic glass installation that regulates daylight and glare, making it the largest smart window installation in the world. A proprietary Bright Silver coating lends a sleek exterior finish, while biophilic design and wellness amenities enhance the everyday experience.Accessibility is woven into the space, from tactile flooring that aids navigation for the visually impaired to inclusive amenities and braille details thoughtfully designed for all users.聽The campus also includes 鈥楢ranya鈥, a forested zone designed to foster healthy breaks while also creating a natural noise barrier from the busy traffic outside. Drawing inspiration from Bengaluru鈥檚 identity as the Garden City, the premises feature lush landscaping, along with walking and jogging paths that offer a serene setting for casual meetings and rejuvenating breaks.Designed for the futureSustainability is embedded into every facet of Ananta. The campus operates a fully integrated wastewater recycling system that treats and reuses 100 per cent of the site鈥檚 wastewater. A rainwater harvesting network captures significant volumes onsite, reducing dependency on municipal supply. The use of electrochromic glass, along with passive cooling strategies and high-efficiency HVAC systems, ensures optimised thermal comfort and reduced energy use.The landscape strategy features native, drought-resistant plants that require minimal water, promoting biodiversity while conserving resources. Renewable energy sources, including solar integration, further reduce the project鈥檚 carbon footprint. With LEED Gold certification under the USGBC鈥檚 Core and Shell category and a WELL Health-Safety Rating from the IWBI, Ananta meets global benchmarks in green building and employee well-being. 鈥淎nanta was conceived with a climate-responsive design that aligns with international green building standards while addressing Bengaluru鈥檚 unique environmental and urban challenges,鈥 affirms Shetty. 鈥淚t sets a new standard for future-ready, sustainable workspaces in India.鈥滾imitless possibilities, rooted in IndiaAnanta stands as a testament to Google鈥檚 vision of building with, and for, India 鈥 and the world. More than just a workplace, it reflects the company鈥檚 deep-rooted belief in India鈥檚 potential to shape globally relevant technology. As a hub of innovation, Ananta will accelerate Google鈥檚 ability to develop world-class products, strengthen partnerships, and address complex challenges for users, businesses and start-ups, both locally and globally. With Ananta, Google reinforces its commitment to a future shaped by Indian ingenuity, limitless in ambition and infinite in possibility.FACT FILEProject: AnantaLocation: Mahadevapura, BengaluruInauguration: February 2025聽Total area: 1.6 million sq ftDeveloper: Bagmane聽Architect: Broadway MalyanMaterials used: XXXXXXXX
