Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister, Civil Aviation, inaugurated the new terminal building at Tezu Airport in Arunachal Pradesh. He described Arunachal Pradesh, known as the ‘Land of the Rising Sun,� as the future ‘Gateway of Bharat�. He highlighted that the terminal building, constructed at a cost of Rs.1.70 billion on 212 acres of land, with a 1,500 metres runway, is fully equipped to handle aircraft of the ATR-72 type. Tezu airport is a domestic airport in the town of Tezu which operates through a single runway. With Tezu now on the aerial map, the state has a total of four airports: Tezu, Zero, Hollongi and Pasighat. The airport is currently connected to Dibrugarh, Imphal and Guwahati through regular scheduled flights by Alliance Air and Flybig Airline.The minister announced that Itanagar will soon be connected to Rupsi, Jorhat and Delhi under the UDAAN-5 scheme. The terminal building has the capacity to handle 300 passengers at present, with the potential for expansion to accommodate up to 1000 passengers in the near future. AAI undertook the development and upgradation work to operationalise the airport at the request of the state government. The works undertaken include extension of the runway and construction of a new apron for 2 ATR aircraft, construction of a new terminal building and a fire-station-cum ATC tower. He asserted that over 0.25 million UDAN flights have helped more than 13.7 million people travel under the scheme. Teju airport was operationalised in 2018 under the RCS UDAN scheme of the civil aviation ministry.
