The Meerut Metro project has reached a key milestone with trial runs now underway between New Ashok Nagar and Sarai Kale Khan, as per an update from NCRTC. Trains are being tested at speeds of up to 120 km/h, moving the project closer to operational readiness this year.Sarai Kale Khan, the largest station on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor, is expected to be completed by April. As a major transportation hub, it will seamlessly connect Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, Delhi Metro’s Pink Line, Veer Haqeeqat Rai ISBT, and Ring Road, enhancing regional connectivity.The 23 km stretch features 13 stations, including three underground stations—Meerut Central, Bhaisali, and Begumpul—while the rest are elevated. Civil construction is nearing completion, with station finishing progressing rapidly. Additionally, trial runs have commenced on a new 6 km stretch between Meerut South and Shatabdi Nagar, marking another step forward in India’s first local train service on Namo Bharat infrastructure.
