Ajay Kumar Somani, Director-Mobile Crane Division, Liebherr India, shares the company鈥檚 expectations from and offerings at BAUMA CONEXPO INDIA 2016鈥
How is the current market scenario influencing your offering at BAUMA CONEXPO INDIA this year? Any new launches planned?
The market in India is on the rise, and we think that well tried and reliable cranes with better technology will have a good future in India. We are displaying our new model LTM 1250-5,1, which is a 300-tonne-class crane All Terrain Hydraulic Mobile crane. The crane has several special features 鈥 VaroBase, VarioBallast, Eco Mode, and Single Engine Vario Base 鈥 giving the option to rig the crane with individual outrigger extended as per the space available at site and crane software calculating crane capacity in each direction as per the outrigger extension in that direction. It also allows the crane to have more capacity over outrigger direction with less counterweight. This will be a big feature as it will allow the crane to work in congested areas with best capacities. VarioBallast allows the use of counterweights at different radius so that with the same amount of counterweight, better capacities can be achieved where space for tail radius is sufficient. Eco Mode allows the crane to control fuel consumption to reduce fuel requirement by almost 10 per cent and single engine reduces maintenance cost on engine.
Any specific investments (in rupees) made by the company towards product launches, up-gradation, etc, and if yes, how much?
This is a continuous process in Liebherr. A lot of new technologies are coming in regularly, the latest are VarioBase, VarioBallast, ECO mode, Single Engine drive, etc
In terms of generating business, what are your expectations from the event this year?
In India, unlike international fairs, such events are used as a platform to show new products. Business deals are rarely signed during fairs unless they are finalised earlier but planned to ink during fair for publicity. In India, customers take lot of time before they finalise orders, where as in few countries, people only see the brand value and finalise deals in fairs.
