GOMACO introduces first electric slipform curb paving machine

GOMACO Corporation Inc has unveiled the first battery curb and gutter slipform paver at the World of Concrete 2022 in Las Vegas.

According to the company's manager of controls engineering, Mark Brenner, the prototype CC-1200e is still being tested.

He said that the prototype is based on the company's CC-1200 Curb Cadet. The company has replaced the diesel motor with a battery pack. The paving curb and gutter can pave for four and six hours of the actual 100% duty cycle.

It runs on a 48-volt direct current (DC) lithium-ion battery pack. The machine functions are electronic over hydraulics. Its motor can run on 2,500 rotations per minute (rpm) and reduce speed to 500 or 1,000 rpm.

The prototype produces no noise or emissions and reduces vibrations. It has both fast charging and slow charging facility. The CC-1200e is also well-equipped with a 110-volt vibrator with variable control.

The machine is operated by wireless remote control. The G+ handheld panel controls all the major functions like travel, manual three-point grade control, cross auger directional controls, vibrator control dial, warning lights and emergency stop.

It has rotary-sensored slew drive steering on the front wheel for smooth paving, easier control and a greater turning capability. It can pave on the left or right side.

The electric vibrator coordinates with the stop switch for automatic on or off the vibrator control and synchronises with the paver's travel. The rear track and two-front wheel allow 93 feet per minute of auxiliary travel speed.

The company said that the electric paver could easily manoeuvre job sites.

The Vice President of GOMACO engineering, research and development segment, Kevin Klein, said that it took two years to design and develop the prototype.
