JLG has created an optional seat belt system which makes it essential to wear it. The option seatbelt is being offered on JLG 1255, 1055, 1043, 943, and 742.
The seatbelt system comprises operator presence functionality and seatbelt engagement assurance, including the highly visible orange seatbelt. The system uses visual and audible alarms to ensure the operator is attentive. It would even restrict machine functions when the operator has not buckled up the seatbelt.
For instance, when the operator is seated, and the vehicle ignition key is on, then immediately alarms would be activated continuously.
The alarm stops when the vehicle ignition is turned off or when the operator leaves the seat. The purpose of the alarm is to alert and remind the operator and would not limit drive functions or engine startup, just like seat belt alarms in automobiles.
The presence of operator functionality prevents engine start and hydraulic functions if an operator is not present.
If the system identifies a loss of seat pressure throughout the operation it would engage and transmission parking brake in neutral.
Hydraulic controls are disabled, and the cabin alarm sounds remain continuous. After returning to a seated position, hydraulic controls are enabled, and the cabin alarm stops.
The transmission would require to be returned to neutral to let the system reset prior to re-engaging forward or reverse travel.
