Komatsu and Honda to jointly build micro electric excavator

Komatsu and Honda have announced that they are working together on a micro electric excavator.

The electric PC01 is supplied by a Honda Mobile Power Pack, or MPP, which now powers Honda's scooters and Business Bike category.

Komatsu has been offering the 3.5-horsepower, 661-pound base PC01 model in Asia and Oceania for many years.

One of the distinctive features of the unit is that the operator straddles the machine. It does not have a cab or canopy. The Honda MPP can easily be exchanged without recharging the battery, which simplifies the power supply.

Honda and Komatsu said they would carry out verification tests after the launch of the machine to enhance the utility of electric construction equipment by providing MPPs to construction sites and giving services like the battery swapping system.

Komatsu said it plans to launch the electric PC01 by the end of FY 2021. It envisions the machine closely working with people, trees, and plants while doing work like doing agricultural work, putting in landscaping, and installing utilities, including working indoors.

Komatsu is a Japanese-based multinational company that produces construction, mining, forestry and military supplies, including diesel engines and industrial machineries such as press machines and thermoelectric generators.

Honda Motor Company is also a Japanese- based multinational company. It manufactures automobiles, motorcycles, and power supplies.
