Mahindra Lifespace to develop only net-zero houses from 2030

Mahindra Lifespace Developers will develop only net-zero buildings from 2030 onwards as part of its commitment to the Mahindra Group鈥檚 2040 carbon neutrality goals.

The company told the media that the developer had launched the first net-zero energy project in India, which spread over 7.74 acres in Bangalore. The company has planned to invest around Rs 500 crore to develop the project with estimated revenue of Rs 600-650 crore. Phase-I of this project will be completed by April 2027.

CEO and Managing Director of Mahindra Lifespace Developers, Arvind Subramanian, told the media that global climate change is one of the most challenging issues, and buildings contribute to about 36% of the total energy consumption and about 40% of carbon emissions.

He said that building net-zero homes is an initiative to reduce carbon emissions and a crucial solution to climate change. The company is committed to playing a leading role in this energy transition in the real estate sector.

He said that such projects might result in 5% additional cost, the payback in terms of returns will be gained within 2-3 years, and homebuyers would stand to gain at least Rs 1,000 per sq ft across the lifecycle of projects.

The project, including Mahindra Eden, is Mahindra Lifespaces' second project in Bangalore. The maiden residential project, Mahindra Windchimes, situated on Bannerghatta Road, is completely sold.
