Jharkhand to bring urban amenities on digital infrastructure platform

The Jharkhand government is implementing a central digital infrastructure for providing citizen-centric services in urban areas. The centralised portal will provide monitoring services and timely delivery of citizen services to improve urban governance.

The portal will be a part of the National Urban Digital Mission, and it will be implemented across the state through the state urban development department. It was planned in a meeting between the officials of the state urban development department and Hitesh Vaidya, Director of the National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA).

The officials discussed the current reforms and initiatives implemented in the state. It said that many ideas in the state would be used as a part of the National Urban Digital Mission (NUDM).

Director of the State Urban Development Authority (SUDA), Amit Kumar, told the media that the state has citizen-centric services such as issuing birth and death certificates, building plan approval, property tax collection, and the issuance of trade licenses. However, the central portal will have a dynamic database with service delivery using technological interventions. It will help in real-time monitoring and clearing backlogs of services.

Vaidya visited the control and command center on Ranchi smart city campus and said that the citizen-centric services would benefit the people living in urban areas. He added that the surveillance center in Ranchi smart city could be replicated in other states too.

The officials of the urban development department requested the visiting team to use a real-time monitoring system for solid waste management to monitor the collection and disposal of solid waste in urban areas on a real-time basis at all urban local bodies.
