RailTel looks for data centre partners in rural and semi-urban areas

RailTel, a public sector organization under the Ministry of Railways, is looking for corporate partners to help it construct Edge Data Centres small data centers adjacent to end-users and devices in rural and semi-urban areas to expedite digital transformation and delivery.

According to a statement released by RailTel on Wednesday, this action offers up a public-private partnership (PPP) investment possibility worth over Rs 500 crore.

According to the plan, each Edge Data Centre will have a capacity of roughly 20 racks of 5 KW to 10 KW each. RailTel is also open to experimenting with other rack and power densities, based on the need and availability of space, power, and other considerations at different sites, according to the statement.

It plans to build these centers in 102 locations, primarily in Tier-2 and Tier-3 municipalities, on railway-owned land. The announcement stated that potential business colleagues or partners should be a firm established in India. It has put out an Expression of Interest (EoI) for the industry to participate in this project.

RailTel is a company that specialises in information and communication technology (ICT). According to the statement, it is one of the country's major neutral telecom infrastructure providers, with a pan-India optical fiber cable (OFC) network of more than 60,000 route km or RKM along railway lines. The OFC network includes various rural locations as well as large towns and cities.
