Veteran Mike Young joins Vedanta-Foxconn JV leadership

Mike Young has been appointed as the Senior Vice President of Project Management Office and Manufacturing Operations at Vedanta-Foxconn Semiconductors Limited (VFSL), a joint venture between Foxconn and Vedanta Group. VFSL is planning to establish a cutting-edge semiconductor fabrication facility in India, and Mike will be responsible for overseeing the smooth execution of manufacturing and operational processes in this role.
According to David Reed, the CEO of VFSL, Young brings an extensive 34 years of experience in front-end semiconductor manufacturing across various regions, with significant contributions to two high-volume startups. Reed expresses delight in welcoming Mike to Vedanta-Foxconn Semiconductors Limited and highlights the critical role he will play in establishing top-notch semiconductor manufacturing processes and operations.
Speaking about the potential of the semiconductor industry, Mike Young states that it is projected to reach a trillion dollars in the next decade, with India poised to become a major player. Prior to joining Vedanta, Mike took a short sabbatical from his previous role as the CEO of Systems on Silicon Manufacturing Company (SSMC) in Singapore. He has also served as the CEO of X-FAB Sarawak in Malaysia. Mike has gained extensive experience in operations, yield, and device engineering throughout his career, working with renowned companies such as X-FAB UK, STMicroelectronics, Siemens, Atmel, and Plessey Semiconductors. He is known for his excellence in managing high-performing facilities through effective leadership, continuous improvement, cost control, and operational performance enhancement.
Mike holds a master's degree in Microelectronics Engineering from Middlesex University, UK, and a bachelor's degree in Physics from Aston University, UK.
Vedanta has been actively acquiring talent from the semiconductor industry on a global scale. Earlier this year, David Reed was appointed as CEO, followed by Lawrence (Wong Chee Yoong) as Senior Director of Human Resources. Recently, the company also hired Terry Daly, a veteran from IBM, as an advisor.
