Govt waives cabotage law for ICTT

The Union Cabinet waived the cabotage law for transshipment of export-import (EXIM) containers to and from the International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT) at Vallarpadam for three years. As per this law, no foreign ship can engage in coastal cargo trade in India except under a licence from the DG (Shipping). As per the national policy, vessels from Pakistan and China would not be eligible for the waiver.

Moreover, the waiver would help the terminal to achieve its target of 8.25 lakh TEUs of cargo this year.
