India Realty 2010 Conference

The India Realty 2010 Conference held on August 20, 2010 in Mumbai was a resounding success.

India Realty 2010 Conference was held on August 20, 2010 at the Taj Lands End in Mumbai. The theme of the conference was Infrastructure: The new driver for real estate development. The conference strived to create a platform for industry leaders, academicians, researchers and decision makers from government representing the industry players to share their experiences and provide expertise to overcome the operational challenges faced by the realty sector.

Infra focus

The conference was organised by ASAPP Media Information Group with the support and association of MCHI, BAI, REIDEN & Foundation of Infrastructure Research Studies Training - FIRST.

Relating realty with Infrastructure, Sunil Mantri, Chairman, Sunil Mantri Realty & Chairman 鈥� MCHI, says on an opening note, "In countries like China and Malaysia and many others, first infrastructure is developed and then growth or building begins. However, in India its vice-versa; we do not follow the logical way."

Highlighting the security measures to be considered for a well-planned infrastructure and realty projects, Col Sanjiv Munj, Head Corporate Security, Hindustan Unilever, says, "Globally 50 per cent of the population has moved to urban areas. We face issues of geo-political instability, socio-political issues, environment degradation and many more that can't be overlooked."

Highlighting affordable housing opportunities, Chintan Patel, Associate Director - Real Estate Practice, Ernst and Young, cites, "The government has taken steps, as it introduced the policy to make slum free India, in 2009. In the present day, the Public Private Partnership in our country is also gaining momentum."

The last session of the conference covered the regulatory issues - land use planning, availability and acquisition, environmental impact, branding and credibility.

This one day conference was inaugurated by the Special Guest MK Sinha, President & CEO, IDFC Project Equity. The welcome address was delivered by Pratap Vijay Padode, Editor-in-Chief & MD, ASAPP Media Information Group.
