In order to create dedicated lanes for buses, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) plans to put up railings on either side of the proposed bus rapid transit (BRT) corridor between Aundh and Ravet. The Aundh-Ravet Road would be developed as a BRT corridor and for this purpose the civic body is widening the road to 45 m. The corporation wants to put up railings in order to prevent other vehicles from entering the BRT lanes. The railing system will be implemented on a trial basis. If it succeeds, it will be replicated on other BRT corridors between Kalewadi Phata-Dehu Alandi Road, and Wakad-Nashik Phata Road, reports indicate. Besides, raised crossings for pedestrians and bus commuters will be built near the bus shelters on the Aundh-Ravet corridor. Speed breakers and traffic signals will be erected before the bus shelters. Work is expected to be completed in six months. The corporation began work on the BRT system on four corridors, including the Pune-Mumbai highway, Aundh-Ravet Road, Kalewadi Phata- Dehu Alandi Road and Wakad-Nashik Phata Road under JNNURM. Aundh-Ravet Road is a 14.5 stretch starting from the Rajiv Gandhi bridge on the Mula river in Sangvi, linking it with Ravet. It is one of the most important roads in the municipal limits. It connects Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad to the Pune-Mumbai highway at Dehu Road. The corporation envisages two BRT lanes in the middle of the road to enable speedy movement of public transport buses.
