CCMC received Swachh Bharat funding worth Rs 70 crore

The Union Government has allocated 70 crore to the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) under the Swachh Bharat mission's Solid Waste Management fund.

The local body intends to use this budget to improve solid waste management through various projects such as the Construction & Demolition (C&D) waste plant, waste to energy plant, repair of the Sathy Road ramp facility, and so on.

M Prathap, Commissioner of the CCMC, stated that the civic body has already submitted proposals for projects worth Rs 300 million to the centre for clearance.

The civic body would renovate the Sathy Road ramp for Rs 10 million and purchase machinery for the micro compost centres (MCC) for almost Rs 20 million in order to bring them up to speed and sort waste before transporting it to the Vellalore dump yard. Only six of the 33 MCCs established across the city as part of the Smart City projects are currently operational.

鈥淲e will be procuring 200 CNG mini-trucks to collect waste. These trucks will be fitted with GPS devices which will help in tracking them and are specially designed to collect different types of waste from the people at their doorstep. Apart from that, a construction and demolition (C&D) waste processing plant at a cost of Rs. 20 million and a waste to energy plant will also be constructed in the city for effective waste management,鈥 added Prathap.

He also stated that the civic body will be producing DPRs for a number of projects in order to fully use the Swacch Bharat money.
