Centre, Andhra Govt to Strengthen Vizag Steel Plant

The Central and Andhra Pradesh governments have decided to collaborate on a comprehensive action plan to strengthen the Vizag Steel Plant (VPS). The initiative aims to address financial challenges, enhance production, and ensure the plant’s long-term viability.

A delegation from the Union Ministry of Steel met Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in Undavalli, Guntur district, to discuss a financial package and necessary measures for VPS. Union Minister of State for Steel, B. Srinivasa Varma, thanked Naidu for deploying the Special Protection Force (SPF) to secure the plant.

Strategic Measures for Revival

During the discussions, Naidu proposed regular reviews of the plant’s progress and urged the reopening of the third blast furnace to increase production capacity. Currently, only two blast furnaces are operational.

He emphasized the need for continued collaboration between the central and state governments, assuring full state support to enhance the plant’s efficiency and financial health.

The joint action plan is expected to strengthen Vizag Steel Plant’s position in India’s steel sector, ensuring its revival and sustained growth.
