Goa’s Infrastructure Revamped with Rs 42 Bn Investment Projects

In a significant milestone for Goa’s infrastructure development, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant expressed his sincere appreciation to the Union Government, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways for their substantial investments in the state’s infrastructure. This recognition followed the inauguration of several major projects and the laying of foundation stones for various other initiatives by Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, along with other distinguished guests, inaugurated projects worth over Rs 42 billion. These projects are part of a broader initiative aimed at improving Goa’s connectivity, tourism, and socio-economic development.

One of the key projects is India’s first curved flyover-cum-cable-stayed road overbridge (ROB), which stretches 8 km from Ravindra Bhavan Baina to MPT Gate 9, with an estimated cost of Rs 6.44 billion. This project is expected to enhance connectivity to Mormugao Port, thus promoting tourism and economic growth in the region.

Among the notable ongoing projects in Goa is the Porvorim Elevated Project, a 5.2 km elevated highway corridor connecting to the new airport at Mopa. Despite challenges such as heavy rainfall and steep geological slopes, the contractors, RRSM Infra, have made considerable progress, completing 50 per cent of the work in just four months. This project is now expected to be completed by December 2025, ahead of its original deadline of April 2026.
