On Tuesday, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel approved a substantial budget of Rs 253.94 crore for development projects in 14 towns and one city, aligning with the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana. This initiative, originally launched by former Chief Minister Narendra Modi during Gujarat's golden jubilee celebrations in 2010, has now been extended until 2026-27. The scheme aims to address urban challenges arising from rapid industrialization and development, providing essential funds to local bodies to enhance urban welfare and infrastructure.
A portion of the budget, Rs 6 crore, has been allocated to Jasdan Municipality for the development of a riverfront along the Bhadar River. Additionally, Rs 10.29 crore will fund the construction of a new town hall in Halol, and Rs 8.64 crore is set aside for road and heritage wall projects in Viramgam. The Junagadh Municipal Corporation has received Rs 40 crore for significant projects, including a sports complex and heritage restoration at Narsinh Vidya Mandir. These funds are intended to improve key aspects of city development, such as heritage, tourism, and aesthetic appeal, thereby enhancing the urban identity.
Further investments are directed at critical infrastructure, with Rs 25.29 crore, Rs 25.52 crore, and Rs 26.69 crore allocated for stormwater management and drainage projects in Pardi, Patan, and Veraval-Patan municipalities, respectively. The funds also cover water supply systems, sewer management, and essential services in slum areas. Other developments include road construction, street lighting, and water pipeline installations across various municipalities, focusing on both aesthetic and functional improvements to urban areas.
