India to support Russia in developing Far East region: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India would be a partner of Moscow in achieving its vision in developing the Far East region of the country.

While addressing at the Eastern Economic Forum, PM Modi recalled his 2019 visit to Vladivostok and lauded the vision of Putin for the redevelopment of the Far East region.

In the 2019 visit, PM Modi revealed that New Delhi would give USD 1 billion loans to help the economic development of the region.

He also signed a memorandum to set up a direct marine corridor between Vladivostok and Chennai.

During his speech, he informed that the biggest shipyards of India would associate with Zvezda to build a few significant commercial ships in the world.

The Prime Minister highlighted the value of the mutual relationship and said the India-Russia energy partnership could help bring stability to the energy market worldwide. He said that India has a skilled and dedicated workforce, and the Far East is abundant in resources.

Therefore, there is enormous scope for Indian talent to offer to the Russian Far East development.

PM Modi also invited the governors of 11 areas of the Russian Far East to visit India. Earlier, Harsh Shringla, Foreign Secretary, met Sergei Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister, and other senior executives in Moscow.

The Prime Minister said that during his initial trip, one of the main aims of the trip was to discuss supporting economic cooperation in the Russian Far East.
