Infosys to Build Lufthansa Tech Hub in India

Infosys is establishing a global capability centre (GCC) in India for Lufthansa as part of a renewed $300 million IT contract with the German airline. The move highlights the increasing adoption of the build-operate-transfer (BOT) model in large-scale IT renewals.

The dedicated tech hub follows similar initiatives in the aviation sector, including Delta Airlines鈥 tech centre in Bengaluru and American Airlines' upcoming technology centre in Hyderabad. The trend underscores India's growing importance as a hub for aviation-focused technology solutions.

Lufthansa Technik Services India (LTSI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Lufthansa Technik, has been operating in Bengaluru since 2005. With over 300 employees, LTSI provides component services for commercial aircraft globally, including spare parts inventory, repair, engineering support, and logistics.

Infosys has a strong track record in setting up GCCs for global clients. It previously established an integrated manufacturing facility for an aerospace company, integrating sensor-based monitoring across multiple production units. In 2022, Infosys and Rolls-Royce launched an aerospace engineering and digital innovation centre in Bengaluru, focusing on high-end R&D and digital services.

The global maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) market is expected to reach Rs 9.8 lakh crore ($118 billion) by 2030, reinforcing India鈥檚 role as a strategic technology hub for global aviation players.
