According to a recent Observer Research Foundation (ORF) report, Japan is significantly expanding its developmental footprint in Northeast India, aligning closely with India鈥檚 Act East policy. The report highlights Tokyo鈥檚 increased investment in infrastructure, connectivity, and capacity-building projects in the region, strengthening India-Japan strategic ties.The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has been instrumental in projects like the North East Road Network Connectivity Improvement Project, covering critical road upgrades in Assam, Meghalaya, and Mizoram. Japan is also engaged in urban development efforts, including water supply systems, solid waste management, and healthcare in cities such as Guwahati.This deeper engagement is seen as part of Japan鈥檚 broader Indo-Pacific strategy and a diplomatic pivot to support sustainable and inclusive growth in a geopolitically sensitive region.
