Kerala's State Co-operative Institute of Information Technology, Electronics, and Communications (COSTECH) has announced plans to establish 2,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the state by 2030, in collaboration with ESYGO, a Chennai-based manufacturer of EV charging stations. The agreement was formalized in Thiruvananthapuram in the presence of key officials, including COSTECH Chairman Prof. E. Kunhiraman and ESYGO鈥檚 leadership team.
The project aims to build a comprehensive EV charging infrastructure network throughout Kerala, from urban centers to rural areas. This initiative will not only encourage the adoption of electric vehicles but also contribute to the state's efforts to reduce carbon emissions. The installation of charging stations will provide income opportunities for small businesses, cooperatives, and residential complexes, fostering economic growth while promoting eco-friendly transport.
The charging stations will operate 24/7, with additional amenities such as coffee shops, internet cafes, and public information centers to enhance the customer experience. With electric vehicle adoption on the rise, studies predict that by 2030, over 10 million electric vehicles will be in use on Kerala's roads, making the development of robust charging infrastructure crucial.
The project, supported by central government guidelines for EV charging infrastructure, will also offer technical assistance and financing to individuals, cooperatives, and organizations to install the stations.
