Kochi's Infopark Connectivity Set for Major Boost

Connectivity to Infopark is set to improve significantly with enhanced transport services and progress on key infrastructure projects. Tech professionals at the campus, which employs nearly 75,000 people and over 1 lakh when including Smart City and Kinfra Park, eagerly anticipate the introduction of e-feeder bus services.

"Feeder buses have been a long-standing demand. Their deployment will encourage many employees to switch to water transport. However, last-mile connectivity remains a challenge," said Anish Pandalani, state president of Progressive Techies. He also urged for improved KSRTC bus services, noting the lack of connectivity after 7 PM despite shifts ending at 8 PM, 8:30 PM, and 10 PM.

The state government has allocated Rs 187.7 million to acquire 1.6352 hectares of HMT land for the Seaport-Airport Road's second phase, a critical infrastructure project spanning 25.7 km from Irumpanam to Kochi Airport. Industries Minister P. Rajeeve announced plans to allocate an additional Rs 230 million for acquiring land from the National Armament Depot (NAD).

The first phase of the road, covering 11.3 km from Irumpanam to Kalamassery, was completed in 2003 by the Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala Ltd (RBDCK) and transferred to the public works department in 2020. However, the 14.4 km second phase from HMT Kalamassery to the airport has faced delays due to slow land acquisition. Fund allocations are expected to accelerate the project, benefitting Infopark employees commuting to northern areas and enhancing overall connectivity for the IT hub.
