Mobis India Limited, an affiliate of Hyundai Motor India and a key player in global automotive components, has inaugurated its Electric Vehicle Battery System Assembly (BSA) plant at Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu.
Spread across 8.15 acres adjacent to Hyundai’s vehicle manufacturing unit, the facility has an initial capacity of 36,000 units annually, scalable to 75,000 units in line with rising demand for electric mobility. The facility will assemble high-performance battery systems for electric vehicles manufactured in India. The upcoming Hyundai Creta Electric will be the first model to feature battery packs assembled at this new unit. Mobis aims to play a crucial role in Hyundai’s broader strategy to localise EV production and strengthen its electric vehicle portfolio in India.
Currently, the plant manufactures Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt (NMC) battery packs and is expected to support Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) battery production in the near future. T. R. B. Rajaa, Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce, officially inaugurated the facility.
Park Ki Chul, Managing Director of Mobis India Limited, stated, “This new EV Battery System Assembly plant represents a strategic leap forward in our efforts to support India’s transition to clean and sustainable mobility.
